What
is the tipping policy?
Individual tipping will not be necessary. A built in gratuity will be divided among the staff on a regular basis.
Children
must be of what age to ride? Children must
be 6 years old to ride on the trails. Younger children may
ride in the arena with the youth wrangler.
Is
child care provided? To what extent? Child
programs start at age 3. We can, however, help locate a baby-sitter
(additional charge) for younger children if given advance notice.
Is
this a family oriented ranch? Horseshoe Canyon
Ranch is family owned and family operated.
Is
there a minimum length of stay? During
the "Summer Season" the minimum stay is 3 days. A 6 day stay is customary to take advantage of all the activities
such as canoeing, a wilderness ride, and the ranch rodeo.
There is a two night minimum stay during the " Spring
and Fall Seasons".
Will
the ranch cater to special diets? Absolutely.
Just call ahead and we will be happy to accommodate your needs.
Will
I receive a clothing/equipment list? Yes, we will
make some basic suggestions.
Is
there a place for me to plug in my laptop or have access to the
internet? Yes there is. We have two cafe' computers
that share a common printer and are connected to a satellite internet
service. There are also two additional highspeed internet lines
that can be plugged into laptops and in the conference/meeting room
there is an internet jack.
Will
we see any wildlife? There is a good chance of seeing
some elk or deer. Newton County has the highest population
of turkey and bear in the state but they are very wary and not often
seen. We also have birds galore; hawks, doves, songbirds,
quail and even buzzards. Horses, goats and Longhorn cattle
may be seen wandering about the beautiful 350 acres of Horseshoe
Canyon Ranch.
What
will the weather be like? We can't guarantee
the weather, but we can guarantee a variety of activities, rain
or shine. In the summer, days are warm with nights generally
cooler and breezy.
Can
we buy sundry items at the ranch? Most sundry
items will be available at the lodge.
Do
you recommend rental cars? Not unless you have planned
other activities in the area.
Are
laundry facilities available? Yes, and laundry
supplies are furnished.
Is
liquor provided? No, but you may bring your
own to be consumed in your cabin. We are in a dry county,
so if you have any items you would like for us to purchase prior
to your arrival, please let us know. We can charge them to
your account.
Are
any foreign languages spoken? Not by the staff (unless
you consider "Southern" a foreign language).
Are
pets allowed? No, for the safety of your pet and
our ranch animals, we are unable to allow additional livestock.
Are
riding lessons available? Yes, for all ages
and experience levels.
What
kind of riding program does the ranch offer? We have a
variety of trails, meadows, and programs that will be exciting and
challenging for beginners and experienced riders.
Do
I get the same horse all week? Yes, unless
you request a change.
Can
I brush and saddle my own horse? Yes.
Do
the owners/managers take part in the riding program?
Yes.
How
long are the typical rides? Generally morning and
afternoon rides last approximately 1 hour. There is a wilderness
ride that lasts approximately 4 hours, including breaks and lunch.
What
kind of riding program does the ranch offer? Before
you arrive our Wranglers will select a horse for you from our herd
of well-broke, experienced trail horses. The head wrangler bases
his decision on the information you provide, so please be accurate
regarding your height, weight and ability. If we made a good match,
you will ride the same horse throughout the week.
Our riding program
consists mainly of morning and afternoon scenic trail rides lasting
1- 1 1/2 hrs. These trail rides are single file and divided into
groups of 8-10 riders. Due to the hilly and uneven terrain loping
is not permitted on the trail. More experienced riders will enjoy
more difficult trails and some trotting when appropriate. Arena
rides are available early in the week for instruction and later
in the week for games, barrels, or just some loping in a controlled
setting. Our wilderness ride to Busby hollow lasts close to 4hrs
and is restricted to experienced riders only. In addition to our
normal trail rides we offer a breakfast ride, an evening ride for
the adults, and a steak- fry ride.
What
is the altitude of the ranch? Approximately
2100 ft.
Are
facilities accessible for wheelchairs or otherwise handicapped?
Yes.
Is
smoking permitted? Yes, outside only
and during breaks while trail riding.
Where
is Horseshoe Canyon Ranch?
We're located 7.5 miles west of Jasper, Arkansas off state highway
74. Jasper is approximately 20 miles south of Harrison and
68 miles north of Russellville on state highway 7 in Northwest Arkansas.
